Sep 23, 2011 - yeah.. the Epsilon platform (FSP BlueStorm series for example) comes to mind.. *shudders* "ripplecious" is probably the best way to describe it lol but hey.. they tried to improve the platform (Bluestorm II), didn't work out too well and they abandoned it.. i'd still take a FSP instead of any of those off-brand or store brand PSUs.. the really low end grey OEM FSPs might not be the best, but at least they all have working protection circuitry.. the off-brands? most likely not..

oHailPrestoNl Says:

Sep 23, 2011 - You're right about the Aurum PSUs, but FSP has put out some pretty mediocre/bad stuff. Conversely, thermaltake has released a few that were pretty good but those were CWT rebrands IIRC.

Knaeckebrotsaege Says:

Sep 4, 2011 - simply because OCZ specs them to have cheap caps and other underdimensioned components and instead puts the money in a flashy case with LED fans and useless bullshit like that. look at a FSP Aurum Gold or any other _REAL_ FSP OEM unit.. not the rebadge crap (OCZ, BeQuiet, Zalman etc.) anyone who buys this label-brand PSU crap like OCZ, Coolermaster, Zalman, Thermaltake or whatever doesn't deserve any better. Get it from the ACTUAL manufacturer like Seasonic, CWT, FSP, Delta, ...

xlegendqc87x Says:

Sep 4, 2011 - even if you insult me you seriously fail, fsp is a cheap brand get over it, they make crap power supply if you want proof check ocz power supply, these are made from fsp and so many fail so quickly..

Knaeckebrotsaege Says:

Sep 4, 2011 - cheapo budget psu, and then mentioning lite-on and FSP aka Fortron-Source !? man.. if you don't know what the fuck you're talking about just keep your mouth shut. compairing FSP to raidmax (leadman/powmax) is an insult to fortrons..

Knaeckebrotsaege Says:

Sep 4, 2011 - ridiculous.. just plain ridiculous. the crap that's in the comments aswell as the BS this guy is talking in the video.. no idea about what he's talking about. how many rails a PSU has says NOTHING about the quality. and seriously? HD5770 on a 400W!? i'm running an overclocked Q6600 @ 3.6 with a HD6850 + lots of other crap on a 380W Seasonic S12-II and i STILL have room to spare. the whole PSU oversizing crap is ridiculous. and linus seems to go with the flow instead of educating himself. sad

Aug 9, 2011 - i only say : Just because you don´t know them, does not mean they are equally bad. Who do you think produces the PSU´s for Antec, Cooler Master, Silverstone, NZXT, XFX, Scythe, OCZ,Xigmatek, AeroCool...? There are not so many manufacturers in the World.

Addictedgamer1 Says:

Jul 26, 2011 - Nope. Its always over bumped. I run a 460 off a 400w xigamtek 80+. Runs beautifully no problems so far. He got a 560 (non ti) on a 300w 80+

Jul 22, 2011 - It certainly lacks cables for everything...

xlegendqc87x Says:

Jul 15, 2011 - hp are crap,,, literally, even if they are popular because lot of people don't know how to build a pc, they are crap, they use the cheapest parts for their pc and sell them at a premium price.

poiutestet Says:

Jul 14, 2011 - @xlegendqc87x i know, i use a Seasonic X850 :D but to say that a FSP or lite-ON can kill your PC, is nonsense. do you really think that a manufacturer like HP so much RMA would survive *g* greetings

xlegendqc87x Says:

Jul 13, 2011 - the psu is the most important part of a pc, you should never get a cheapo budget psu like lite-on,fsp,raidmax whatever. if your psu blow up or can't handle what you connect on it or whatever it can kill a lot of stuff in your pc, a $ 30 psu like this can kill your motherboard ram and hard drive in a matter of hours.

poiutestet Says:

Jun 1, 2011 - @Linus Tech TIpps 1. door stoppLOL 2. but you have no idea what you're talking! Seasonic bulid very good PSU´s that's right, but the LiteON it´s still a good OEM PSU, would say from a HP, Acer... PC. LiteON is one off tone of the largest manufacturer in the world and certainly not a scrap. just because you do not know them, they are not equally bad

Ptro001 Says:

May 30, 2011 - ehh that PSU is the equivilant of a Corsair 350W-400W

Shroffff Says:

Apr 24, 2011 - 5770's take 450w min (xfx anyway) and as planning for the future goes you would want more than that, but good video :)

Zorthaify Says:

Mar 26, 2011 - I would reccomend a CoolerMaster 550W PSU it has enough cables for everything you need and great it you have a mid range card like the 5770

omgddd Says:

Mar 18, 2011 - right. my bad. thanks.

wwyk1993 Says:

Mar 13, 2011 - 20mm = 2cm. 14mm = 1.4cm. And he's saying one twenty (120), not one 20 (1x20).

sciman001 Says:

Feb 9, 2011 - thats the same wattage as my stock dell psu

omgddd Says:

Jan 26, 2011 - thats not a 20mm fan. more like 14.

tpaper12 Says:

Jan 26, 2011 - Linus, dude, no disrespect - you're an awesome reviewer and techie, but I really wouldn't call that a doorstop. The first power supply you have there is a Lite-ON power supply. Sure, the quality isn't up to scratch with Seasonic, but if OEMs like IBM, HP, Dell and Acer can trust Lite-ON to provde power supplies to be used in a large number of their systems, you can be assured it is a quality power supply. As for that particular Lite-ON, it is an older model from the P4 S775 era.

ubxp Says:

Nov 16, 2010 - the Antec TPQ PSUs use a 80mm fan and they are pretty dam quiet.

cssful Says:

Nov 8, 2010 - 650 is pretty overkill for 5850.. I have seasonic x-400w & Hd 6870 :) Running very well
